Starter Analysis
STORMELLO was a hunch horse in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (GI), but was left in the wake of Street Sense's devastating move down the lane. Considering he dueled with Principle Secret in a very quick pace for the first half of the race, and hung on gamely for fifth while his competitor was eased, his race was much better than the 15-length loss indicates. With that foe back in here again, Desormeaux would be better served sitting behind him as he did when victorious in the Norfolk (GII). Though he's never raced over the synthetic surface, he trains here and doesn't seem to have any problems in the mornings. With his back class, he'll vie for post-time favoritism, and should be part of your exotic tickets.

Pedigree Analysis :: Chesnut colt, 2; by Stormy Atlantic - Wilshewed (Carson City)
STORMELLO is by a son of Storm Cat, Stormy Atlantic, currently the second leading 2-year-old sire behind Street Cry. Among his major winners are She Says It Best, who took the Alcibiades (GII); multiple stakes winner Hot Storm, and the grade three winner Indian Ocean. A minor stakes winner at four, Stormy Atlantic was primarily a sprinter and made just one start at age two. With five crops of racing age, Stormy Atlantic has done well with 2-year-olds, winning 18% of the time. Stormello is the first foal out of his dam Wilshewed. The daughter of noted speed influence Carson City, Wilshewed was winless in ten starts. However, she comes from a pretty nice family that includes several sibling stakes winners. In addition, Stormello’s direct female line can claim winners of top 2-year-old races Del Mar Debutante and Arlington-Washington Lassie.
