Starter Analysis

Pedigree Analysis
Bob and John will likely vie for post time favoritism with A. P. Warrior. Drawing the rail should aid the Baffert trainee, who has been close to the lead early in both of his first place finishes. For a two-year-old race, this event does not have a ton of early pace, so he could easily find himself on the lead going into the first turn. Obviously the 1 1/16 miles won’t be a problem in light of the big finish in the inaugural Real Quiet last month. The controversial DQ aside in that race, his six length win was a fairly impressive display, but he’s definitely facing a tougher field here. Improving speed figures in each of his four starts say this colt has a promising future, and the string of bullet workouts also indicate that he enjoys his job in the morning as well. Can’t fault those who key him in the top spot in the exotics, but would like to see at least 5-2 before making a big win bet. Bob and John is by Seeking the Gold, a royally bred son of Mr. Prospector out of the multiple stakes winner producing mare Con Game. Seeking the Gold won or placed in several graded races, including the Super Derby (G1), the Peter Pan (G2), Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), the Travers (G1), and the Haskell Invitational (G1). Seeking the Gold is the sire of 71 stakes winners as of this writing, including 2005 Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner Pleasant Home, Dubai Millennium (horse of the year in Dubai), Heavenly Prize (champion three year old filly), Flanders (champion two year old filly), and Cash Run (winner of Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies). With his offspring earning over $5.4 million this year, he is ranked 10th on the leading sires list. Bob and John is out of the precocious Ministers Melody, who earned over $100,000 in her two-year-old season, including a runner-up finish in Turfway’s Kentucky Cup Juvenile Fillies. Her success didn’t stop there; the following year she won the Arlington Heights Oaks (GIII) and was second in the Grade One La Brea. Bob and John is his dam’s third foal, the other pair have yet to race.
