Pedigree Analysis
PASSIVE INCOME has the look of a longshot with just a maiden win to his credit. That victory came in his first start, and in three subsequent efforts he hasn't shown he's got what it takes to get the job done here. On the flipside, you can never completely disregard Jerry Hollendorfer, who has ruled this circuit for years. Note however, that go to jock Russell Baze will be on Hollendorfer's other runner, Cause to Believe. Lone try at two turns for this colt came in his last out, and he didn't have much left when they hit the homestretch. Would be a surprise if he came away with the win. PASSIVE INCOME is from the second crop of High Yield, who was trained by Wayne Lukas. High Yield was precocious enough to be finish in the top three in five graded stakes at two and still went on to win the Blue Grass (GI) at Keeneland and the Fountain of Youth (GI) the following year. High Yield is a son of Storm Cat, arguably the world's most influential active sire. Tops among his six stakes performers to date is Amazing Buy, who has bankrolled nearly $250,000, taking the Pennsylvania Oaks (GIII) as one of four stakes victories. Passive Income is the first foal from his dam Notable Legend. An unraced mare, she nevertheless comes from a strong family that includes her full brother Unruled (both by Notebook), a very class router than won stakes on both turf and dirt over three campaigns. Another half brother, Boy Genius, raced an incredible 102 times, with 55 of those going two turns. While he was stakes placed at two and three, he missed his four-year-old campaign, yet returned to win stakes the following three seasons.
