Pedigree Analysis
BOLD CHIEFTAIN looms dangerously as a controlling speed factor if he can shake loose of Wanna Runner early. Drawing the outside post in the field of seven didn't help the son of Chief Seattle. While he's beaten up on some suspect company in his last two races, he did it pretty impressively and was running over off tracks both times. It may be that he is a mud loving type, but like the fact that he scored in a sprint and route. Again, he had things his own way in those starts and he is surely to get pressured at some point. Question is, can he handle it? Feeling here is that he does possess the talent, and have a sneaky suspicion that Tyler Baze didn't come from Santa Anita just for the lovely Bay Area weather. Live horse worth a play at a price. BOLD CHIEFTAIN is by Chief Seattle, who broke his maiden 5 ½ Furlongs at Saratoga. He then ran second in the Breeder's Cup Juvenile (GI) and the Champagne Stakes (GI) before than being retired after only four lifetime starts. From three crops of racing age (and 59 to start to date), Chief Seattle has yet to produce a stakes winners, but does have three stakes-placed runners. For 2006, he will stand stud at Empire Stud in New York. Bold Chieftain is the latest of five foals from his dam Hooked on Music. She has already produced two stakes placed runners: Capt. Fly Hook, third in the Governor's Handicap at Ellis Park; and Hooked on Niners, twice graded placed in northern California. Bold Chieftain is inbred 3x3 to the blue hen mare My Charmer, the dam of both his grandsires in Seattle Slew and Seattle Dancer. While Seattle Slew needs no introduction, Seattle Dancer was the most expensive yearling ever sold at public auction: $13.1 million and has gone on to sire over 50 stakes winners in his own right.
