Starter Analysis
WAKE UP MAGGIE should be in the back of the pack along with Lady of Venice, or she's been playing the closer's role in two of her last three starts. She might prefer to be a little closer like she was when winning the Long Beach Stakes a couple of months ago. Wherever Talamo places her, he's going to have to deal with pressure from quality opponents the entire way. For people who like a price, she will definitely not go off at a short price like she has in her most recent races. Trainer Julio Canani is very good at pulling off a shocker from time to time, and this would be one that would fall into that category.

Pedigree Analysis :: Bay mare , 5; by Xaar (GB) - Kalagold (Ire) (Magical Strike)
WAKE UP MAGGIE has been favored in her last three starts, all in stakes, and has a win, in the restricted Long Beach, on the Hollywood turf, to show for it. Prior to that, she started 15 times in Ireland and England, facing some pretty tough competition too. Most of her races were in the 7-8 furlong range, and as is more common in Europe than here in the States, she faced colts on several occasions. One of those came in the listed King Charles II Stakes, where she was beaten just a neck by the good turf miler Jeremy. She also captured a pair of Group 3 events against her own sex.

Wake Up Maggie is by Xaar (GB), who was champion at both age two and three in England. He finished in the top three in 10 of 11 lifetime starts, with wins in the Dewhurst (gr. I); Prix de la Salamandre (gr. I); Prix de Cabourg (gr. III) and Craven (gr. II). As a sire, he has been very good with 2-year-olds, with over 70 winners to date. He also got the Europe’s top sprinting 3-year-old of 2006, Balthazaars Gift. Even though he is noted for his speed influence, there is distance breeding there as well. His dam Monroe is a half-sister to Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) winner Blush with Pride, who is in turn the dam of Better than Honour, whose offspring include Belmont (gr. I) winners Rags to Riches and Jazil. From this same family also comes multiple Group One winners Peeping Fawn and Aldebaran and also two time champion Spinning World.
