Starter Analysis |
|
If Lady of Venice isn't the post time favorite, VENTURA will be. There really isn't much separating the two top contenders in terms of talent. Ventura did get her foe in the Just A Game (GI) on Belmont Day in what amounts to a one-turn mile, so Ventura does still have to answer the two-turn question. Really like the way she has handled the adversity that has arisen in a few of her races; she should get a good trip just behind the leaders here to help negate any traffic problems. Looks like the horse to beat if she handles the extra curve. |

Pedigree Analysis :: Dark Bay filly, 4; by Chester House - Estala (GB) (Be My Guest) |
|
VENTURA is yet another of the seemingly endless string of top class grass female trained by Bobby Frankel. Many of these, such as Banks Hill, Intercontinental, and Heat Haze are Juddmonte homebreds, as is Ventura. This filly has also followed a similar career path, starting out in Europe before coming to the U.S. Though she ran primarily on the turf in Britain, she got her lone stakes win in a listed event over the Polytrack at Kempton. It was just after that race that she came to Frankel. After an allowance win, he took her to Keeneland and won the Madison (gr. II), again over the Polytrack. It's been back to the green since then, with a third in the Distaff Turf Mile (gr. III) at Churchill and a win in the Just A Game (gr. I) on the Belmont Stakes undercard. A start in the CashCall Mile would mark her fifth different track in as many starts.
Ventura is by yet another Frankel trainee in Chester House, who unfortunately died of cancer June 28, 2003. Chester House won the Arlington Million (gr. I) as the highlight and final race of a career that saw him earn nearly $2 million. Chester House comes from a family of racing royalty, with Grade One siblings Empire Maker (Belmont), Honest Lady (Santa Monica Handicap) and Chiselling (Secretariat) and Grade Two winner Decarchy. Overall, Chester House has sired 21 stakes winners and seven graded winners to date, headed by Divine Park, winner of the Metropolitan Handicap (gr. I).
