Starter Analysis |
|
ZASKAR is probably making the biggest class jump of any filly in the Oaks field, coming off a listed turf race at a smaller venue in France. Unlike some of the other European shippers, she doesn't bring her jockey with her across the pond, but picking up David Flores isn't a bad pickup. Drawing outside shouldn't hurt since she takes back anyway. Biggest price of the overseas horses at 20-1 in the morning, a price that seems reasonable. Thinking others are better suited for the win. |

Pedigree Analysis :: Bay filly, 3; by Anbaa - Bezzaaf (GB)(Machiavekkian) |
|
ZASKAR is lightly raced coming into the American Oaks, with just five races. Interestingly, she’s increased her distance with every start, beginning at six furlongs, working her way up to 1 7/16 miles. She’s shown some versatility, winning at sprints and routes and also on turf and Polytrack in Great Britain. Like Satan’s Circus, this would be her first start outside of Europe.
Zaskar is by the Danzig stallion Anabaa, a champion older male in France. A winner of 8 of 13 starts, he won six stakes including a pair of Group One events, all at six furlongs or shorter. Though not well known to American racing fans, Anabaa has sired three champions worldwide and approximately three dozen stakes winners to date. Followers of California racing may remember his son Tsigane, winner of the Wickerr Handicap, from a few years back. Zaskar is a half-brother to Ans Bach, a listed winner on the turf in Dubai.
