Starter Analysis
American bred SATAN'S CIRCUS has been pretty successful in France, and with some long races in the pp lines, she definitely one that will handle the distance. What remains to be seen is if she can handle the tougher competition. In her lone top class race, the Group One French Oaks, she was fifth, beaten a little more than seven lengths. Likely to be rated for the majority of the 10 furlongs. Looks to be fairly evenly matched with some of the other European shippers, Carribean Sunset excluded. Will be interesting to see which way the bettors go on a filly that was 36-1 in her only Group race to date.

Pedigree Analysis :: Dark Bay filly, 3; by Gone West - Delmonico Cat (Storm Cat)
SATAN’S CIRCUS ships to Hollywood from France, where she has won four of her eight starts. The Kentucky-bred filly started out at some of the smaller venues in France, but has given a good account of herself when stepped up to the bigger stage. She won an overnight handicap at age 2 last autumn and a listed race this spring as part of a three-race winning streak. The string was snapped when she checked in fifth in the French Oaks (FR-I). Her last two starts have been at 1 5/16 miles, so she’ll actually be turning back in distance for the American Oaks.

Satan’s Circus is by Gone West, one of the leading sires of the past 20 years. The 23-year-old has sired four Breeders’ Cup winners: Da Hoss (Mile; twice), Johar (Turf) and Speightstown (Sprint); in addition he has also produced Belmont (gr. I) winner Commendable and Pacific Classic (gr. I) Came Home. Right here at Hollywood, his son Tiz West won the Cinema Handicap (gr. III) two weeks ago. His offspring are equally adept on dirt and turf, as witnessed by a pair of champions, Zafonic and Royal Abjar, in England and Germany, respectively. Satan’s Circus is the first foal from his dam Delmonico Cat. She was a very solid racemare, winning the Honey Fox (gr. IIIT) twice, earning over $270,000 in 15 starts. Satan’s Circus is a direct female descendent of La Troienne, considered to be the most influential broodmare of the 20th century.
