Starter Analysis
Rail draw for PURE CLAN shouldn't be a problem for this stalking daughter of Pure Prize. Undefeated on the grass, Pure Clan has never been off the board in eight starts. Long streak of graded stakes races has toughened her up plenty as well. No worries with Leparoux riding either; he's had his share of success here. Interesing fact that Bob Holthus has been training 50+ years but never been to Hollywood Park. Would be a nice feather in the cap of a stellar career. Probably worth a play on top as well as the other slots in the exotics.

Pedigree Analysis :: Chestnut filly, 3; by Pure Prize - Gather The Clan (Ire) (General Assembly)
PURE CLAN began her career with a pair of wins on the grass, but then she switched to the dirt and swept the fall stakes (Pocahontas – GIII and Golden Rod - GII) at Churchill Downs. That put her on the Kentucky Oaks trail; she wintered at Oaklawn, running in their series of stakes for 3-year-old fillies before the Oaks. While she didn’t win, Larry Jones had a couple of pretty solid females in Eight Belles and Proud Spell that were dominating the scene. Trainer Bob Holthus put Pure Clan back on the grass after the Oaks, and she bounced back with a strong win in the Regret (gr. IIIT).

Pure Clan is by Pure Prize, whose biggest victory came in the Kentucky Cup Classic (gr. II) at Turfway Park. Pure Prize is royally bred; being by Storm Cat out of champion three-year-old filly Heavenly Prize. He also is a full brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Good Reward. Pure Prize has eight stakes winners in his first two crops. In addition to Pure Clan, his other stakes winners include Cowgirls Don’t Cry (Shuvee – gr. II) and Birdbirdistheword, winner of the Delta Jackpot (gr. III). Pure Clan is out of Gather the Clan (IRE), who won the Violet Handicap (gr. IIIT) at 1 1/16 miles, and is also the dam of six other winners, including Kentucky Jockey Club (gr. II) victor Greater Good, also trained by Holthus.
