CLEARLY FOXY takes her first shot beyond 1 1/16 miles and though she's shown she saves something for the late stages, she's going to have to step it up to earn a check in here. Has some decent grass form against lesser at Woodbine and ran a career best at Churchill in her latest. Could well bounce off that race, but even if she doesn't she's a tough call. Gomez goes on, which adds to the appeal, but could depress her odds too much to warrant a win bet. Would like 12-1 to jump into that pool. |

CLEARLY FOXY got the American Oaks invite after a nice victory in a second level allowance race on the turf at Churchill Downs. She began her career for Mark Casse in Canada, one of the premier trainers there. She started off well with a maiden and Grade 3 win in her first two starts, but subsequently failed to fire on the main track at both Monmouth and Turfway.
Clearly Foxy is by Volponi, upset winner of the 2002 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I). That win was the highlight of a sporadic career in which he won seven of 31 lifetime starts. Even if he wasn't a win machine, he was a durable horse that was at his best at nine furlongs and beyond. He didn't turn out to be a top sire, and the subject filly is his leading earner in terms of lifetime dollars. His lone stakes winner for 2008 is Poni Colada (Borderland Derby). He now stands stud in Korea. Clearly Foxy is out of Sermon, whose only other foal is a 2-year-old. Sermon won just one of 19 starts, and is out of a mare, Pink Shoes, who was at her best sprinting for trainer Jinks Fires.
