Starter Analysis |
|
BACKSEAT WINNER went wire-to-wire last time at the same distance and surface at Belmont and might have to employ the quick-break tactics once again after drawing post 10 here. The good thing is that Castellano might not have to use her too much since Raw Silk (#4) is the only real speed to her inside. Oddly enough, prior to the Belmont race, she was usually either midpack or further behind in the early stages. Tactical decision by the connections will likely be the key to her success. Seems primed for a top effort, but is it good enough? |

Pedigree Analysis :: Bay filly, 3; by El Corredor - Kiss a Miss (Kissin Kris) |
|
BACKSEAT RHYTHM comes from the owner/trainer connections that had Big Brown when he made his maiden debut. In nine race, she's started on the turf just three times, with a pair of wins and a third to show for it. So this might be her preferred surface, but she was also good enough to run third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) and second in the Frizette (gr. I).
Backseat Rhythm is a daughter of El Corredor, a winner of one of two starts at two. El Corredor won four of five races the following year, including wins in the Del Mar Breeders' Cup (gr. II) and Cigar Mile (gr. I) against older horses. His only defeat at three came when he was second to Fusaichi Pegasus in the Jerome Handicap (gr. II). El Corredor started just three times at four, winning the Del Mar Breeders' Cup for a second time and Pat O'Brien Handicap (gr. II). All of his seven victories came at a mile or under. To date, he has sired six stakes winners and one champion in Puerto Rico. In addition to Backseat Rhythm, El Corredor has also sired Toyota Blue Grass (gr. I) winner Dominican; Adieu, winner of the Frizette (gr. I); Wanna Runner (Lone Star Derby [gr. III]), and Itty Bitty Pretty, winner of the San Ysabel (gr.III).
