Starter Analysis |
|
Galileo's Star is an interesting longshot that could well upset the top choices. She was beaten by several Oaks foes in the Honeymoon Breeders' Cup (GII) here last month, but that was her first race in the States, and she also hadn't raced since last October. She has just a European maiden win to her credit, so those looking at the class jump certainly have a legitimate concern. One thing in her favor is her breeding, probably the best of any filly in the field. James Cassidy, who also saddles Sol Mi Fa in here, has said that he expects a big effort out of this daughter of Galileo, who he says is coming into the race as good as she can be. Obviously will have to step it up to post her first graded win, but has more than a small chance to light up the toteboard. Very playable at what will be 20-1 or greater. |

Pedigree Analysis :: Bay filly, 3; by Galileo (Ire) - Anazara (Trempolino) |
Galileo's Star is out of Anazara. A dam of six foals and three runners, Anazara has produced one stakes horse, Anzari, a listed winner in Ireland, other than the subject filly. Anazara is a half-sister to Astarabad, a stakes winner of near a half-million dollar who was third in the 1999 Jim Murray Memorial Handicap.
There is plenty of stamina on both sides of Galileo's Star's pedigree. In addition to the obvious contribution of her sire, her dam's sire Trempolino won the Prix l'Arc de Triomphe (GI) and was second in the Breeders' Cup Turf (GI), both 1 ½ mile events. Add the presence of stamina influences such as Shirley Heights and Ribot on her female side, and you have a horse that should have no distance limitations throughout her career.
