Pedigree Analysis
Louvain has been scratched from the American Oaks and will run in the Flawlessly Stakes Monday at Hollywood Park. Louvain is by Sinndar, an Irish bred colt who may be little known to race fans in the United States, but was one of the more accomplished European horses in recent history. He was a Group One winner at two, the European Champion at three, winner of the Derby Stakes, Irish Derby and Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, the first horse in history to complete this in the same year. Winning both the English and Irish Derbies for which he received a $1 million bonus. Won the Arc in the second-fastest recorded time ever for that race. From two crops to race, he has one Group winner to date other than the subject filly: the three-year-old Shawanda. Louvain is out of the Irish bred Flanders, not to be confused with the precocious American bred filly trained by Wayne Lukas. Louvain is her only foal to date. On the track, Flanders was exclusively a sprinter, compiling a 6-4-1 slate from 19 starts, with a minor stake win and two English Group 2 placings the highlights of her career.
