Western Hemisphere has never run off the board and though this is a step up, it's
not out of line for one who has done nothing wrong and could be any kind. She does
like the local course and ran well last out to be second in the Honeymoon in her
first attempt outside the Cal-bred ranks. Faces Lovely Rafaela, who beat her by
a nose in the Honeymoon, and much more here but she is young enough to be moving
forward still and may fire her best shot yet. Not out of the question - especially
for exotics play at solid odds.

Western Hemisphere was bred by her owner Golden Eagle Farm. Her sire, General Meeting, was the leading California sire of 1998, 1999, and 2000, and among the leaders nationally by 1999, and 2000 progeny earnings, He is the sire of General Challenge (9 wins at 2 to 4, $2,876,018, winner of the Pacific Classic (GI)), Excellent Meeting (8 wins at 2 to 3, $1,402,396, winner of Hollywood Starlet (GI)), Magical Allure (7 wins at 2 to 3, $620,480, first in the La Brea Stakes (GI)), and Career Collection (5 wins at 2 to 4, $560,382, winner of the Sorrento Stakes (GII)), as well as 27 other stakes placed horses. Excellent Lady, the dam of Western Hemisphere, was raced and is also owned by Golden Eagle Farm. She has been an excellent broodmare, producing major stakes winners General Challenge, a full brother to Western Hemisphere, Notable Career, winner of the Oak Leaf Stakes (GI) and the Landaluce Stakes (GIII) as a two-year-old, and Red Velvet, who was stakes placed in two minor events in California. While Excellent Lady did not win any stakes in her 13 race career, she was very versatile, winning on the turf, dirt, sloppy track, and going both short and long. She is also a half brother to Southern Halo, who was second in both the Super Derby (GI) and the Swaps (GII).
