INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 2, 2010)—Zenyatta worked a strong five furlongs Thursday morning at Hollywood Park preparing for her next start in the $250,000 Lady’s Secret Stakes on Oct. 2.
The drill in 1:00.20 over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park was the second for the 6-year-old Street Cry mare since she won the Clement Hirsch Stakes for an unprecedented third time on Aug. 7 at Del Mar.
Zenyatta’s victory over Rinterval and five others in the Hirsch was her 18th in a row for owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trainer John Shirreffs.
Undefeated and the champion older female in both 2008 and 2009, Zenyatta will be seeking her third win in succession in the Lady’s Secret, a Grade 1 at 1 1/16 miles. The race will be run at Hollywood Park for the first time in 2010 as the track is playing host for the first time to the Oak Tree Racing Association.
Regular rider Mike Smith was aboard for the work Thursday morning. The time was the fastest of 11 at the distance.
The Lady’s Secret is scheduled to be Zenyatta’s final start in California. She is expected to defend her title in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 6 at Churchill Downs.
