INGLEWOOD, Calif. (May 16, 2013)—Warren’s Veneda became the first two time winner of the Spring/Summer meet when she won the $54,250 allowance feature for California bred or sired females Thursday at Betfair Hollywood Park.

Less than three weeks after earning her maiden victory in the Alphabet Kisses Stakes – the final race on the California Gold Rush program April 27 – the 3-year-old Affirmative filly and 5-1 shot got past Akiss Forarose in the closing yards to prevail by a neck.

Trained by Craig Lewis for owner-breeder Benjamin C. Warren, Warren’s Veneda, who is out of the Flying Continental mare More Cal Bread, was reserved early by jockey Tyler Baze, came outside for the stretch run and won in 1:43.52 for the 1 1/16 miles on turf.

Fifth in her turf – and career debut April 14 at Santa Anita – Warren’s Veneda returned $13.80, $5.20 and $2.60 and pushed her bankroll to $69,520.

Akiss Forarose, who tracked the slow pace set by 75-1 shot Quiet Advice while racing outside, took over early in the stretch, battled gamely under Garrett Gomez, but was edged in her return to grass. In her first of the meet, the daughter of Rio Verde finished last in the Melair Stakes the same day Warren’s Veneda won the Alphabet Kisses. Akiss Forarose paid $4.60 and $2.60.

Warren’s Flasher, the 3-5 favorite also owned and bred by Warren, but trained by Jorge Gutierrez, was up to gain third by a nose over 12-1 outsider Gia Is a Bella after encountering some trouble shortly after the start.

The show price on Warren’s Flasher, who won at 9-1 in her turf debut April 18 at Santa Anita, was $2.10. Lia Juliana and Quiet Advice completed the order of finish. Medusalina was scratched.

Racing resumes Friday. Post time is 1 p.m.

The 14th day of the Spring/Summer meet also marks the fourth Fiesta Friday. There will be Mexican food and drink specials between 2-4 p.m. and Gold Club members can enter to win a $100 mutuel voucher.
