INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 11, 2009) — Trainer Doug O’Neill, enjoying a Mediterranean cruise as the Hollywood Park Spring/Summer Meet winds done, will try to pad his commanding lead atop the trainers’ standings with a sweep in Sunday’s $100,000 Landaluce and $100,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship.

O’Neill will be represented by filly Necessary Evil and Classical Slew — the first and second choices on the morning line — in the Hollywood Juvenile and by second-choice Repo in the Landaluce.

Repo will try to turn the tables on unbeaten favorite Well Deserved in the Landaluce after falling one length short of her while closing for second money in the Cinderella last month. They will be running an extra sixteenth in the 65th running of the six-furlong Landaluce, which lines up as follows from the rail out:

Ballistic Sue, with Tyler Baze up, carries 117 pounds and is listed at 5-1 on the morning line; Ridemetothemoon, Rafael Bejarano, 117, 20-1; Repo, Corey Nakatani, 117, 2-1; Warren’s Jitterbug, Michael Baze, 115, 20-1; Well Deserved, Joel Rosario, 120, 7-5; Champagne d’Oro, Garrett Gomez, 115, 5-1, and Feeling Fancy, David Flores, 117, 8-1.

In the 70th running of the six-furlong Hollywood Juvenile Championship, Necessary Evil is 8-5 on the line and Classical Slew is 9-5.

Necessary Evil won her lone start with ease under a hand ride, prompting O’Neill to test her against the boys. Classical Slew followed up a 5 ¼-length victory in his debut
with a win in the Willard Proctor Memorial Stakes in early June.

The O’Neill pair will break side-by-side in the five-horse field, which lines up as follows:

Necessary Evil, Rosario up, 114, 8-5; Classical Slew, Gomez, 120, 9-5; Grace Upon Grace, Victor Espinoza, 117, 4-1; Zip Quik, Joseph Talamo, 117, 3-1, and Coo Cachoo, Tyler Baze, 117, 12-1.

O’Neill, who sent out Azul Leon to win the 2008 Juvenile, held a 34-20 lead over John Sadler atop the trainers’ standings entering Saturday’s program. Six days remain at the 55-day stand.

The Juvenile will run as the third race and the Landaluce as the fifth on Sunday’s ten-race program at Hollywood Park. First post time is at 1 p.m.
