Usurp Cruises As Bejarano Caps Four-Win Afternoon

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 9, 2009) — Rafael Bejarano capped a four-win afternoon with a front-running victory aboard favorite Usurp in the $30,000 feature Wednesday at Hollywood Park.

Bejarano, who rode three consecutive winners earlier on the card including two for trainer Doug O’Neill, sent Usurp to the front early and the 4-year-old gelding was never headed while winning by two lengths for his fourth victory in 13 starts.

Usurp, owned by Jay Em Ess Stable and trained by Ron Ellis, covered seven furlongs on Cushion Track in 1:22.46 while paying $5.40, $2.80 and $2.20. Bad Boy returned $2.40 and $2.10, while the show payoff on Spirit of Cochise was $2.40.

Bejarano swept races three through five on You Can Dream, Recess and Dinnr With Nikki C. O’Neill, who saddled the first two, completed a hat-trick with Quoted in the sixth race.
