Two Swaps Winners Tangle In San Pasqual

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 4, 2012)—Tres Borrachos, who upset Two Step Salsa and Colonel John to win the 2008 Swaps Stakes at Hollywood Park, will try for his first win over conventional dirt in the $150,000 San Pasqual Stakes Saturday at Santa Anita.

A Grade II at 1 1/16 miles, the San Pasqual is the eighth of nine races. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Hollywood Park open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Marty Jones for George Hicker and Button Stable, Tres Borrachos was second as the 17-10 favorite in the Grade III Native Diver Handicap Dec. 3. The 7-year-old Ecton Park gelding has won four of 35 and earned $884,257. He will carry top weight of 123 pounds.

Skipshot, who surprised Sidney’s Candy in the 2010 Swaps, will be seeking to end a six race losing streak. The 5-year-old son of Skip Away will break from the inside for Olympia Star Inc. and trainer Jerry Hollendorfer.

The card also includes the $100,000 Sham Stakes, a Grade III for 3-year-olds at one mile.

Secret Circle, who is undefeated in three starts, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint, will make his first appearance beyond six furlongs. The son of Eddington is owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman and trained by Bob Baffert.
