INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 23, 2010)-Making his first start since last Nov. 28, Summer Movie was a three-length winner in his 3-year-old debut during the initial Friday night program of the season at Hollywood Park.

Last of eight in the Generous, a Grade III and part of Hollywood Park’s Turf Festival, in his final start of 2009, Summer Movie tracked the pace on the outside down the backstretch, moved to the lead with about three-eighths of a mile to run and was not seriously challenged through the stretch.

A $120,000 2-year-old purchase by owner George Krikorian, Summer Movie, a gray son of Holy Bull, won for the second time in four starts. The winner’s share of the $45,200 purse in the optional claimer boosted his earnings to $52,000.

Trained by Art Sherman and ridden by Tyler Baze, who has five winners through the first two days of the spring-summer meet, Summer Movie completed the mile on turf in 1:35.37. An 8-1 shot, he paid $18.40, $8.60 to place and $4.60 to show. Runner-up Hockley returned $4 and $3 while Thomas Baines, the 8-5 favorite, was a half-length back in third and paid $2.40. It was the first start on turf this year for the Johannesburg gelding, who finished seventh in the Santa Anita Derby on April 3.

Baze was one of three jockeys to have two winners Friday. Alonso Quinonez and Joel Rosario also doubled.

Racing resumes Saturday with the $910,000 California Gold Rush, featuring eight stakes races for California breds.

The biggest of the Gold Rush events is the $200,000 TVG Snow Chief Stakes for 3-year-olds. Alphie’s Bet is the 8-5 morning line favorite in the field of eight.
Post time for the 10-race program is 1 p.m.
