INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 2, 2013)—Smash, who has earned all three of his wins over Cushion Track at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make his second start in New York in the eighth race Wednesday at Aqueduct.

The $71,000 optional claimer for older horses at one mile is the eighth of nine races. Post time Wednesday at Aqueduct is 9:50 a.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert for owner Kaleem Shah, Smash will race beyond seven furlongs for the first time after finishing fifth of 10 in the Grade III Tom Fool Handicap in his initial try at Aqueduct March 2.

A 5-year-old son of Smart Strike and the Dixieland Band mare Dixie Holiday, Smash broke his maiden by 2 ½ lengths in his debut July 18, 2010 at Hollywood Park. His two other victories over Cushion Track came in 2011. The Kentucky bred won an optional claimer by a nose over stablemate Hoorayforhollywood May 29 and a $53,598 allowance by a half-length Nov. 27.

A winner of three of eight and a bankroll of $145,400, Smash will break from the outside in the field of five and will be ridden by Irad Ortiz, Jr.

The race is part of a Pick Six with a carryover of $34,136. The Pick Six will begin in the fourth race. Scheduled post time is 11:22 a.m. PDT.
