INGLEWOOD, Calif. (November 14, 2010)—Minesweeper, an upset winner over older foes in the Oakland Handicap last month at Golden Gate Fields, will make his Hollywood Park main track debut in the $55,000 Nashville Stakes Thursday.

A gelded son of Cause Ur Mine and the Renteria mare Rents Due, Our Minesweeper will also be making his initial start for new connections. He was privately purchased after his 19-1 upset Oct. 19 by trainer Frank Lucarelli for owner David Taylor.

Patrick Valenzuela will ride Our Minesweeper as the Idaho bred seeks his fifth victory in 12 starts. He’s earned $136,249.

Five others – Leothelion, Paris Vegas, Indian Firewater, Thomas Baines and Gallant Gent – were entered in the Nashville, which will be run at 7 ½ furlongs over Cushion Track.

The only member of the field who possesses a local victory is Gallant Gent. The Johanesburg gelding and the Cherokee Run mare Foofaraw won at first asking at Hollywood Park, overcoming severe trouble to prevail by a neck July 3, 2009.

Claimed out of that race by his current connections – a partnership that includes Six S Racing Stable and trainer Craig Lewis – Gallant Gent has since won two of 11. His bankroll is $130,280.

A Maria’s Mon colt out of the A.P. Indy mare Tell Seattle, Paris Vegas has been well traveled in 2010. The gray has started three times at three different tracks – Saratoga, Monmouth Park and Remington Park – since coming to the United States from Austria. He won at 7-1 over a sloppy Monmouth surface Sept. 12.

Owned by Ecurie Manuel Garcia and trained by Fabrice Chappet, Paris Vegas has won three of nine and banked $109,648.

Leothelion is adding blinkers, Indian Firewater has been no worse than third in his last six starts for trainer Bob Baffert, but hasn’t won since defeating maidens Sept. 7, 2009 and Thomas Baines won two in a row over the Polytrack at Del Mar against $62,500 claimers for owner A J L Productions LLC and trainer Doug O’Neill.

The Nashville is the fourth of eight races Thursday. Post time is 12:30 p.m.
