INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 14, 2010)—Russell Baze, the world’s winningest rider, earned career victory No. 11,000 on Saturday at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, Ca.

The milestone win for Baze, who turned 52 on Aug. 7, came in the day’s fourth race. He guided Separate Forest, a debuting 3-year-old Forestry filly, to an easy victory in the $25,000 contest for older maiden fillies and mares. Owned by breeder Gerald Ford’s Diamond A Racing Corporation and trained by Richard Mandella, Separate Forest, who had recorded eight works over the Cushion Track at Hollywood Park prepping for her initial race, completed the 5 ½ furlongs in 1:02.38.

South American based jockey Jorge Ricardo is next on the list with 10,867 wins. Baze surpassed Laffit Pincay, Jr. to become the leading rider in North America when he won for the 9,531st time on Dec. 1, 2006 at Bay Meadows.
