Rousing Sermon Seeks To End Dry Spell In `Deal

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 1, 2012)—Rousing Sermon, runner-up behind Liaison in the Grade I CashCall Futurity last Dec. 17 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will aim for his first win of 2012 in the $200,000 Real Good Deal Stakes Friday at Del Mar.

A seven furlong race for 3-year-olds and part of the Golden State series for California breds, the Real Good Deal is the seventh of eight races. Post time is 4 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by breeders Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams and trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, Rousing Sermon will be making his first start in a non-graded event since he finished second to Liaison in the Real Quiet Stakes last Nov. 12 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A son of Lucky Pulpit and the Awesome Again mare Rousing Again, Rousing Sermon is winless in five starts this year, but did finish third in the Grade II Louisiana Derby April 1 at the Fair Grounds.

In his last appearance versus state breds, the chestnut was a winner, taking the California Cup Juvenile by 2 ¼ lengths last Oct. 29 at Santa Anita.

The field of eight also includes Snow Chief Stakes winner Unusual Heatwave. A son of Unusual Heat and the Candi’s Gold mare Miss Alphie. Unusual Heatwave won the Snow Chief April 28 over Cushion Track for owners Ellen and Peter O. Johnson, Sr. and Teresa McWilliams and trainer Alexis Barba.
