INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 5, 2012)—Martin Pedroza, one of only 10 jockeys to have won at least 1,000 races at Betfair Hollywood Park, will begin pursuit of another riding title at Fairplex Park when the 13-day season begins Friday.

The main event on the 10 race program is the $50,000 Beverly J. Lewis Stakes. Restricted to 3-year-old fillies at 6 ½ furlongs, the Lewis is the ninth race. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Pedroza, who has won 13 consecutive riding championships at Fairplex, will scale 5-2 morning line favorite My Selection in the Lewis.

Owned by Kaleem Shah, Inc. and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, My Selection has won two of four and earned $69,480. The most recent victory for the daughter of Badge of Silver and the Coronado’s Quest mare Le Relais came in an optional claimer May 11 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A victory by My Selection would be the third consecutive in the Lewis for Pedroza. The veteran won with the Baffert-trained Subsidized in 2010 and California Nectar – for trainer Doug O’Neill – last year.
