Night School, the racing industry’s national online fan education program, welcomes two of Thoroughbred racing’s most esteemed owners to its teaching panel this Tuesday for what figures to be a must-listen presentation of “Pedigrees, Sales and Ownership.” The live audio stream features 2013 record-breaking owner Ken Ramsey and Eclipse Award finalist Maggi Moss.

Week 30 of the 2013 season will include an encompassing look at “Pedigrees, Sales and Ownership” with appearances by BRIS pedigree handicapping expert Kellie Reilly as well as Keeneland sales associate Will Mayer. The 90-minute lesson will be co-hosted by Night School’s Jeremy Plonk and Steve Byk of SiriusXM’s “At the Races with Steve Byk” program. This week’s study materials for the lesson will direct students to Thoroughbred, Standardbred and American Quarter Horse links to all of the subject matters addressed in the forum.

Fans can take part in the class free by visiting any one of the 40-plus websites that provides the Night School lessons each week. Tuesday’s Night School will be the seventh such class to be simulcast with “At the Races with Steve Byk” on SiriusXM. Night School attendees will be able to pose questions to all of the guests in two manners, either by the live chat module or by joining the “At the Races with Steve Byk” live call-in show at 1-866-454-6848. Those wishing to listen in on the radio can find the program from 8:30-10 p.m. (EDT) on Sirius 93 or at Sports Zone 961 for Sirius Online users (XM Radio will have live baseball this week).

For those who cannot attend live, the Night School archives always are available free, immediately following the session and beyond. Videos used in all lessons also can be seen at www.youtube.com/horseplayernow.

Ken and Sarah Ramsey have set single-season win records in 2013 at Keeneland, Churchill Downs and Saratoga and are front-runners for the Eclipse Award as the nation’s top owner and breeder. Moss was America’s leading owner by wins in 2006, an Eclipse Award finalist in ’07 and was leading owner at Fair Grounds this spring, among her many meet titles that include NYRA, Churchill Downs and her home track at Prairie Meadows.

Mayer, who joined Keeneland in 2011 after working with Darley, will discuss the recently completed Keeneland September Yearling Sale and current sales and pedigree trends. Reilly will give handicappers a sense of the tools needed to evaluate a horse’s potential based on the bloodlines and available statistics.

Presenting title sponsors for Night School are the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Inc., and the United States Trotting Association.

Night School is offered every Tuesday for 40 consecutive weeks through Dec. 3. Topics change weekly, and fans are eligible for prizes and rewards for registering. Registration is optional and free. There is never a charge for taking part in Night School. The weekly program is offered in three media: live chat via the Cover It Live blogging/chat forum, audio/radio streaming and full video lesson plans. The media of delivery is based on the subject matter and alternates throughout the season.

This week’s Night School will be followed at 10:00 p.m. ET by the “After Night School Special,” featuring live racing from Mountaineer Park. The segment will cover the evening’s final two races in real time with free, live-streaming video. Fans wishing to take part in the Mountaineer action simply need to remain in the Night School chat after class. Complimentary past performances are available, courtesy of BRIS.

The Night School Tour of onsite fan education events will be on the road this Sunday for Oklahoma Derby Day at Remington Park. Fans in Oklahoma City can learn up close and personal with Caton Bredar, Jeremy Plonk and Jerry Shottenkirk. The all-day seminars are free and informal throughout the afternoon.
