Liaison Tries For CashCall Futurity-Travers Double

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 22, 2012)—Liaison, whose biggest victory came in the Grade I CashCall Futurity last December at Betfair Hollywood Park, will try for his first win of 2012 in the $1 million Travers Stakes Saturday at Saratoga.

A Grade 1 for 3-year-olds at 1 ¼ miles, the Travers is the 12th of 13 races. Scheduled post time is 2:46 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Arnold Zetcher and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, Liaison defeated Rousing Sermon by a neck to win the Futurity, earning him Horse of the Meet honors for the Autumn season at Betfair Hollywood Park.

If successful Saturday, the son of Indian Charlie will become the second Futurity winner to capture the Travers, joining Point Given. Trained by Baffert, Point Given won the 2000 Futurity before taking the Travers more than eight months later.

The field of 11 also includes Nonios, the winner of the Grade III Affirmed Handicap during the Spring/Summer meet at Betfair Hollywood Park. Owned by Green B. Smith, Jr. and trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer, Nonios, who was second behind Paynter in the Grade I Haskell Invitational July 29 at Monmouth Park, will be ridden for the first time by John Velazquez.
