INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 16, 2012)—Lady of Shamrock, who earned the first Grade I of her career in the American Oaks July 14 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will try for another Saturday in the $300,000 Del Mar Oaks.

Restricted to 3-year-old fillies and scheduled for 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Del Mar Oaks is the eighth of 10 races. Post time Saturday is 2:05 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Hronis Racing LLC and trained by John Sadler, Lady of Shamrock used a rail-skimming ride from Hall of Famer Mike Smith to win the American Oaks, defeating seven rivals.

If the daughter of Scat Daddy and the Blushing John mare Blushing Issue wins Saturday, she will become the first American Oaks winner to capture the Del Mar Oaks. Dublino won the Del Mar Oaks in 2002 after being disqualified from first and placed second behind Megahertz – who was beaten by a nose in the DM Oaks – in the inaugural American Oaks seven weeks earlier.

Bred in Kentucky by Grovedale Sales, Lady of Shamrock has won five of nine and earned $465,400.

The field also includes the My Gi Gi and Best Present Ever, the 2-3 finishers in the American Oaks, and Hollywood Oaks runner-up Eden’s Moon, who won the Grade II San Clemente Handicap July 22 in her turf debut for owner Kaleem Shah and Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert.
