Jeranimo Seeks Another Graded Win In San Gabriel

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 10, 2013)—Jeranimo, whose stakes victories include the 2011 Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make his first start as a 7-year-old in the Grade II, $150,000 San Gabriel Stakes Sunday at Santa Anita.

Scheduled for 1 1/8 miles over turf, the San Gabriel is the eighth of nine races. Scheduled post time is 2:15 p.m. Post time Sunday at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Mike Pender for owner B.J. Wright, Jeranimo will be making his firstr start since finishing fourth in the 2012 Citation, a Grade II, Nov. 23. The son of Congaree and the Jeblar mare Jera finished four lengths behind winner Data Link.

A winner and second twice in four previous starts at the San Gabriel distance, Jeranimo will be seeking his ninth lifetime victory. He’s earned $1,107,400 in 31 outings.

From inside out, the field for the San Gabriel Stakes: Temple’s Door, Tyler Baze rides, 118 pounds; Tale of a Champion, Gary Stevens, 118; Juniper Pass, Julien Leparoux, 118; Slim Shadey, Garrett Gomez, 123; Fast Track, Martin Garcia, 118; Chosen Miracle, Joe Talamo, 118 and Jeranimo, Rafael Bejarano, 120.

The third race Sunday is the $75,000 Paseana Handicap, an ungraded event for older fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles. The field of six includes 2011 Sharp Cat Stakes winner Charm the Maker.
