INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 18, 2013)—Jeranimo, who won the Grade I Shoemaker Mile last year and Grade II Citation Handicap in 2011 at Betfair Hollywood Park, is among 10 scheduled starters in the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes Saturday at Del Mar.

A Grade I at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Read is the eighth of 10 races. Post time at Del Mar is 2 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open Saturday at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by B.J. Wright and Robert LaPenta and trained by Mike Pender, Jeranimo will be seeking to end a two-race losing streak in the Read.

The 7-year-old trailed in the Grade I Turf Classic May 4 at Churchill Downs and finished fourth in the Grade I Shoemaker Mile June 29 at Betfair Hollywood Park after beginning 2013 with a 2 ¾-length victory in the Grade II San Gabriel Jan. 13 at Santa Anita.

A son of 2003 Hollywood Gold Cup winner Congaree and the Jeblar mare Jera, Jeranimo has won nine of 34 and banked $1,220,864.

From inside out, the field for the 40th Eddie Read: Barocci, Joe Talamo rides, 119 pounds; Sofast, Julien Leparoux, 119; Fed Biz, Martin Garcia, 121; Jeranimo, Rafael Bejarano, 121; Cogito, Mario Gutierrez, 119; Fly Lexis Fly, Edwin Maldonado, 119; Middie, Corey Nakatani, 119; Slim Shadey, Gary Stevens, 121; Lucayan, Garrett Gomez, 119 and Vagabond Shoes, Victor Espinoza, 119.

Other contenders in the Osunitas, which is the fifth race on the program and is for older fillies and mares, include Closing Range, Top Kisser and I Dazzle, who was a troubled fourth in the Grade II Royal Heroine Mile July 6 at BHP.
