INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 7, 2013)—Include Me Out, who won the Desert Stormer Handicap June 16 in her first start of 2013, was assigned top weight of 123 pounds for the $200,000 A Gleam Handicap.

A Grade II for older fillies and mares at seven furlongs over Cushion Track, the A Gleam is one of four stakes to be offered Saturday, July 13.

The remaining stakes on the next-to-last day of the Spring/Summer meet are the $350,000 American Oaks, a Grade I for 3-year-old fillies at 1 ¼ miles on turf and a pair of six-furlong races for 2-year-olds – the Grade III, $150,000 Hollywood Juvenile Championship and the $150,000 Landaluce for fillies.

The A Gleam Handicap is a Breeders’ Cup Challenge “Win and You’re In’’ race. The BC nominated winner will earn a fees-paid spot in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, which will be run Nov. 1 at Santa Anita.

Owned by Samantha Siegel’s Jay Em Ess Stable and trained by Ron Ellis, Include Me Out won the Desert Stormer by three-quarters of a length. The victory was the seventh in 14 starts for the 5-year-old Include mare and her second in four tries over Cushion Track. She’s a double Grade I winner, having captured the Santa Margarita at Santa Anita and Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar in 2012.

Include Me Out’s stablemate, Teddy’s Promise, winner of the Grade I La Brea Stakes in 2011, was handed 122 pounds, three more than Byrama, the winner of the Grade I Vanity Handicap June 15, and Rumor.

The weight assignments for the remaining 11 nominees: Book Review and Reneesgotzip (118); Curvy Cat (116), E Z Kitty, Glamour Puss, Maker Or Breaker and Winding Way (115), Candrea, Dancingtothestars and Esentepe (114) and Conkate (113).

Defending champion Dhaamer was given 121 pounds for the $100,000 Sunset Handicap, a Grade III at 1 ½ miles on turf. The traditional closing day feature will be run Sunday, July 14.

The only horse to win the Sunset more than once was Whodunit, who won in 1959 and 1961 when the race was contested at 1 5/8 miles on dirt.

Marketing Mix, who won the Grade I Gamely May 27, was assigned 119 pounds. She is expected to start and try to become only the third female to win the Sunset, joining Typecast (1972) and Petite Ile (119). All Squared Away and Slim Shadey also received 119.

The remaining Sunset weights: Hawk’s Eyes (117), Quick Casablanca (116), Temple’s Door and Why Not Be Perfect (115), Cogito and Extensive (113), Father of Science and Warrant (112), 4-year-old filly Freedom Reigns and Only the Gold (108).

Entries for the A Gleam, American Oaks, Hollywood Juvenile Championship and Landaluce will be taken Wednesday, July 10. Sunset entries will be drawn Thursday, July 11.
