Horse Charities To Benefit Sunday At Hollywood Park

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 9, 2010)-Horse racing based charities will be part of the festivities when Zenyatta aims for her 17th win in a row and an unprecedented third victory in the $250,000 Vanity on Sunday at Hollywood Park.

The Teddy Cole Foundation of Horses, Inc. and TROTT (Training Racehorses Off The Track) will have a ribbon cutting ceremony – including actress, horse enthusiast and California Horse Racing Board member Bo Derek – dedicating “Teddy’s Stall”, a program to help retired horses find new homes after they leave the track. The ceremony will occur after the first race. Post time is 1 p.m.

With financial aid from the Teddy Cole Foundation, TROTT will take each retiring horse to its San Diego County facility to ready for adoption.

The organization will also have a booth near the paddock to sell T-shirts featuring Zenyatta to help raise money for their noteworthy cause.

After the second race, Hollywood Park will present a check to Madeline Auerbach, the president of CARMA (California Retirement Management Account), with proceeds generated by the sale of the Zenyatta DVD that was produced last year.

CARMA is a non-profit, charitable organization created to raise money for retired California racehorses.

Old Friends, which houses retired horses, including stallions, in Georgetown, Ky., will benefit from the sale of Zenyatta jerseys produced by MVP Sportswear will be sold on Sunday near the paddock and at the track Gift Shop.
