INGLEWOOD, Calif. (October 9, 2013)—Sarach, who won the Grade II Honeymoon Handicap June 8 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make her first start outside California in the $400,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Saturday at Keeneland.
A Grade I for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup is the ninth of 10 races Saturday. Scheduled post time is 2:21 p.m. PDT. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.
Owned by breeders Gerard and Alain Wertheimer and trained by Hall of Famer Richard Mandella, Sarach won the Honeymoon at 8-1, winning by one length after leading throughout under jockey Martin Garcia, who will be aboard Saturday in Kentucky.
After finishing fourth in the Grade I American Oaks July 13 at BHP, Sarach won the Sandy Blue Handicap Aug. 16 at Del Mar for her fourth victory in 10 starts. The daughter of Arch and the Atticus mare Eximius has earned $246,562.
