Night School, the racing industry’s national online fan education program, puts on its handicapping hat this Tuesday for the “Breeders’ Cup Preview.” While last week jockeys Gary Stevens and Mike Smith gave insight to their top mounts and the importance of the Breeders’ Cup, this Tuesday’s session will focus on the invigorating task of picking winners in the 14 championship events.
The 90-minute interactive session begins at 8:30 p.m. ET and will feature a live chat with handicapping experts Dick Jerardi of the Philadelphia Daily News and Beyer Associates, as well as Ed DeRosa of BRISNET.com. Night School’s Jeremy Plonk, Joe Kristufek and Caton Bredar also will be in the session to provide analysis and take fan questions on all the contenders and strategies. Plonk will emphasize money management over the two-day event.
Fans can take part in the class free by visiting any one of the 40-plus websites that provides the Night School lessons each week. For those who cannot attend live, the Night School archives always are available free, immediately following the session and beyond. Videos used in all lessons also can be seen at www.youtube.com/horseplayernow.
Week 35 of the 2013 season, which runs through the first Tuesday of December, is part of the “Championship Season & the Stars” learning pod. The final stretch of topics on the season will help horseplayers and fans gear up for major events like the Breeders’ Cup, AQHA’s Bank of America Racing Challenge Championships and more.
Presenting title sponsors for Night School are the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, American Quarter Horse Association, Keeneland, Churchill Downs, Inc., and the United States Trotting Association.
Night School is offered every Tuesday for 40 consecutive weeks through Dec. 3. Topics change weekly, and fans are eligible for prizes and rewards for registering. Registration is optional and free. There is never a charge for taking part in Night School. The weekly program is offered in three media: live chat via the Cover It Live blogging/chat forum, audio/radio streaming and full video lesson plans. The media of delivery is based on the subject matter and alternates throughout the season.
This week’s Night School will be followed at 10:00 p.m. ET by the “After Night School Special,” featuring live racing from Mountaineer Park. The segment will cover the evening’s final two races in real time with free, live-streaming video. Fans wishing to take part in the Mountaineer action simply need to remain in the Night School chat after class. Complimentary past performances are available, courtesy of BRIS.
The highly successful Night School Tour makes its final stop of 2013 this Friday and Saturday when its band of traveling fan educators teams with America’s Best Racing and its “Racing 101” booth at Santa Anita. Kristufek, Brian Nadeau, Brandi Goode, Tim Brannan and Jose Contreras will be working with the fans hands-on to teach handicapping and betting.
