Gold Cup Runner-Up Tries More Yardage In Cougar II

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 24, 2013)—Kettle Corn, who finished second to Game On Dude in the Grade I Hollywood Gold Cup July 6, will try 1 ½ miles for the first time in his career in the $100,000 Cougar II Handicap Friday at Del Mar.

A Grade III for older horses, the Cougar II is the seventh of eight races. Post time Friday at Del Mar is 4 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by John Sadler for Lee and Susan Searing’s C R K Stable, Kettle Corn was defeated by one length by Game On Dude in the Gold Cup, the second victory in a row in Betfair Hollywood Park’s signature race for the Awesome Again gelding.

A son of Candy Ride and the Lil E. Tee mare Somethingbeautiful, Kettle Corn finished 6 ¾ lengths clear of third-place finisher Sky Kingdom, who is also in the Cougar II lineup.

Kettle Corn, who has been 1-2-3 in three of four starts over Del Mar’s Polytrack, has earned $533,111.
