Gold Cup, Native Diver Winner Aims For `Antonio Repeat

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (February 1, 2013)—Game On Dude, who won the Hollywood Gold Cup and Native Diver in 2012 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will seek a second victory in the $200,000 San Antonio Stakes Sunday at Santa Anita.

A Grade II at 1 1/8 miles, the San Antonio is the final major prep for the Santa Anita Handicap, which will be run March 2. It is the seventh of eight races. Post time Sunday is 11 a.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 9 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Joe Torre’s Diamond Pride LLC, Lanni Family Trust, Ernie Moody’s Mercedes Stable LLC and Bernie Schiappa and trained by Hall of Famer, Game On Dude will be making his first start since winning the Grade III Native Diver by 1 ¼ lengths Dec. 1.

The victory was the 10th in 22 starts for the 6-year-old gelded son of Awesome Again and the Devil His Due mare Worldly Pleasure and pushed his earnings to $3,132,158.

A 5 ¼ length winner of the 2012 San Antonio, Game On Dude could become the first horse to repeat in the race since another Gold Cup winner – Gentlemen – won in 1997 and 1998 for owner R.D. Hubbard and Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella.
