Former Jockey-Trainer John Bucalo Dies At 93

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (June 20, 2010)-John Bucalo, who worked in various capacities in horse racing for more than 55 years, died early Saturday morning after a lengthy illness. He was 93.

Funeral services will be private for Bucalo, a former trainer, jockey and agent for the late Hall of Fame rider Johnny Adams.

Bucalo trained such stakes winners as Actor II, Brass II, Montmarte, Noble Bronze, Princess Toby and Tobin Rose.

Ridden by Fernando Toro, Montmartre earned one of his victories in the 1976 American Handicap at Hollywood Park while Noble Bronze won the second division – eventual 1978 Triple Crown winner Affirmed captured the first – of the 1977 Hollywood Juvenile Championship.
