Jockey Quotes

RAFAEL BEJARANO, TAMARANDO, Winner: “I used him a little bit early to make sure he didn’t get too far back. I found my position right away and just went from there. I tried to make a little move at the half mile to get position by the three-eighths. He’s got a real good kick. The distance is the key for him. He can really run.”

AGAPITO DELGADILLO, ELECTRIC EDDIE, Second: “He had to steady behind horses at the quarter pole, but he wasn’t going to beat (Tamarando) anyway. He still ran pretty well.”

JOE TALAMO, KARMA KING, Third: “He was a little bit more keen than I would have liked. He went :46 4/5 (for the first half mile) and I would have liked to go :47 and change. But he really fought on pretty well for only his third start and first stakes. I think the longer the better for him.”

KENT DESORMEAUX, GREEN MASK, fourth: “He was a little aggressive first time going long. He even tried to go for the wire when we turned down the backside. It’s educational for him. He’ll be OK, he just has to listen to his rider.”

Trainer Quotes

JERRY HOLLENDORFER, TAMARANDO, Winner: “We’ve had some chances to prove ourselves with some of our two-year-olds this year and we’re just thankful for the opportunity. I think he will definitely run in the (Grade I, $750,000-guaranteed) CashCall Futurity (Dec. 14). He just loves the distance.”

BEN CECIL, ELECTRIC EDDIE, Second; “He’s still a maiden, so we still have plenty of options. He’s improving all the time. He had another gear after the wire, so the longer the better for him.’’
