INGLEWOOD, Calif. (November 7, 2013)—Cyclometer, the 9-5 second choice, parlayed a pace-pressing trip Thursday into his first win at Betfair Hollywood Park in the $63,544 opening day feature of the final Autumn meet.

Owned by breeders Irwin and Andrew Molasky and trainer Bruce Headley, the 5-year-old son of Cyclotron took over from pacesetter and 10-1 shot Atta Boy Pete approaching the stretch and went on to win by 2 ¼ lengths.

Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, the California bred completed the 6 ½ furlongs over Cushion Track in 1:15.71. The win was his fourth in 15 lifetime starts and pushed his earnings to $250,554. He returned $5.60, $2.80 and $2.10.

The win was the first in six starts in 2013 for Cyclometer, who is out of the Eastern Echo mare Moana Loa. The chestnut had finished second or third in three of his four races at Betfair Hollywood Park prior to Thursday.

Hear the Ghost, the even-money favorite, was a non-threatening second in his first start since he won the Grade II San Felipe Stakes for Halo Farms and Hall of Fame trainer Jerry Hollendorfer March 9 at Santa Anita.

Fourth of five for most of the journey, the 3-year-old Ghostzapper gelding rallied along the inside to edge stablemate Atta Boy Pete by a nose for second. He paid $2.40 and $2.10 while the show price on Atta Boy Pete was $2.80.

Ready for More and Charlie’sboywins, the longest shot in the field at 26-1, completed the order of finish.

In the first race of the 27-day meet, Full Consent led throughout to give jockey Fernando Perez his first victory at Betfair Hollywood Park. A recent arrival to Southern California and a former leading rider at Hastings Park in Vancouver, Perez has won more than 530 races during a career that began in 2007.

Jockey Rafael Bejarano, who has won five riding titles at Betfair Hollywood Park, got off to a flying start in search of another with three victories Thursday.

Bejarano, who was co-leading rider with Edwin Maldonado at the 2013 Spring/Summer meet, won the third with Prospector’s Trick, the sixth with Graeme Crackerjack and the seventh aboard Miss Well Molded.

Racing will resume Friday. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates will open at 9:55 a.m. for simulcasts.

The second day of the Autumn meet will also mark the first of seven Fiesta Fridays. There will be Mexican food and drink specials between 2-4 p.m. and Gold Club members can enter to win a $100 mutuel voucher.
