INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Dec. 17, 2009) — Odds-on favorite Compari, making his first start since scoring a mild upset in the Snow Chief Stakes here in April, cruised to a two-length victory under jockey Garrett Gomez in the featured seventh race (video) Thursday at Hollywood Park.

Sidelined by quarter cracks after the Snow Chief, Compari showed no signs of tender feet while covering six furlongs on turf in 1:08.38 to win for the third straight time after finishing third in his career debut in February at Santa Anita.

Compari returned $3.60 and $2.20 while banking $29,640 to boost his earnings to $212,640. Rainbow Goose paid $2.40. There was no show betting in the field of four.

Earlier on the program, Gomez rode Surprise Party to victory in her North American debut. The triumph was the 3-year-old filly’s fourth straight following a trio of victories during the summer in England.

Jockey Felipe Valdez enjoyed his first three-win day at Hollywood Park, connecting on Brother Louie ($11.80), Candy Arches ($13.20) and Fleet Royale ($3.60). The hat-trick gave him nine wins at the meet, good for ninth place in the standings.
