INGLEWOOD, Calif. (August 24, 2011)—After his impressive victory in the $1 million Haskell Invitational July 31 at Monmouth Park, Coil will try to add another Grade I to his resume in the $1 million Travers Saturday at Saratoga.

The Travers, which goes at 1 ¼ miles, attracted nine other 3-year-olds. Scheduled post time for the 142nd running of the race is 2:45 p.m. PDT. NBC will provide national television coverage (2-3 p.m. PDT). Track gates at Hollywood Park will open at 10:30 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by Bob Baffert for owners Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Coil will try to become the second horse to win both the Affirmed Handicap, which he captured June 11 at Hollywood Park, and the Travers. Deputy Commander completed the parlay Horizon Stable and Mandysland Farm and trainer Wally Dollase in 1997.

Coil, who was second behind longshot Dreamy Kid in the $150,000 Swaps Stakes prior to his come-from-behind victory in the Haskell, is a son of Point Given and the Theatrical mare Eversmile. He has won four of six and earned $748,560.

The 5-2 morning line favorite in the Travers is Jim Dandy winner Stay Thirsty.
