Citation Winner Jeranimo Seeks San Gabriel Repeat Monday

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (January 14, 2011)—Jeranimo, an impressive winner of the Grade II Citation Handicap Nov. 27 at Hollywood Park, will make his first start as a 6-year-old in the $150,000 San Gabriel Stakes Monday at Santa Anita.

The eighth of nine races on the special holiday program, the San Gabriel is a Grade II at 1 1/8 miles on turf. Post time is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by B.J. Wright and trained by Mike Pender, Jeranimo is the defending champion in the San Gabriel. He will be ridden by Martin Garcia, replacing the injured Garrett Gomez.

Aboard when Jeranimo swept to victory in the Citation, Gomez recently underwent surgery to repair a broken heel and will be sidelined for several weeks.

A son of Congaree and the Jeblar mare Jera, Jeranimo has won seven of 24 and earned $810,400.

The San Gabriel also marks the return of The Usual Q.T. The 2009 Hollywood Derby winner will be making his first start since he finished third in the Grade II American Handicap last May 28. The 6-year-old son of Unusual Heat has won eight of 22 and banked $1,513,240.
