Cinderella Runner-Up Makes Dirt Debut

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (September 12, 2012)—Awesome Annie, who finished second behind Miss Empire in the Cinderella Stakes June 16 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make her first start over conventional dirt in the $50,000 Phil D. Shepherd Stakes Friday at Fairplex Park.

Restricted to 2-year-old fillies at seven furlongs, the Shepherd is the ninth of 10 races. Post time is 1 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by a partnership and trained by Walther Solis, Awesome Annie was second in all three of her starts over Cushion Track before earning her maiden win in her fifth appearance July 28 at Del Mar.

A California bred daughter of Awesome Gambler and the Mane Minister mare Cars and Cigars, Awesome Annie is 1-for-6 with earnings of $92,390.

The most accomplished member of the field – in terms of wins – is Hyena.

Trained by Peter Miller for a partnership, the Keyed Entry filly out of the Reprized mare Ms. Reprized is perfect in two starts. The Florida bred won at first asking against $30,000 maidens July 13 at Betfair Hollywood Park, then won a $50,000 claimer by a nose Aug. 8 at Del Mar. She has banked $48,000.
