Trainer Bob Baffert reported Sunday from Santa Anita that Lookin At Lucky, winner of the $750,000 CashCall Futurity at Hollywood Park Saturday, and a large supporting cast of rising 2-year-old stars all returned in good shape.

“They all looked great,” said Baffert after recording the first Hollywood Park quadruple of his career with Lookin At Lucky and three other 2-year-old colts.

“It feels good to see a nice horse become a millionaire,” said Baffert after a record fifth victory in the Grade I race at 1 1/16 miles on Cushion Track. The $400,000 first prize raised the colt’s earnings to $1,243,300 after his fifth victory in six starts for co-owners Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman.

Lookin At Lucky also accomplished something none of Baffert’s four other Futurity winners — Real Quiet, Captain Steve, Point Given and Pioneerof the Nile — did. He became only the fourth horse to sweep the three biggest 2-year-old stakes on the Southern California calendar: the Grade I Del Mar Futurity, the Grade I Norfolk Stakes at Santa Anita and the CashCall Futurity.

Lookin At Lucky became the first horse to sweep the coveted triple in 17 years, since River Special in 1992. The others were Roving Boy in 1982 and Best Pal in 1990.

“Lookin at Lucky won’t run again until March,” said Baffert, planning to give the probable 2-year-old champion and Kentucky Derby winter-book favorite two starts before the Kentucky Derby.

“We exposed some real stars,” added Baffert, in reference to victories by three other less experienced 2-year-olds: Tiz Chrome in the Stuka Stakes, and Quiet Invader and Clutch Player in maiden races.

Hollywood Park will re-open on April 21 for a 65-day Spring/Summer Meet through July 18.
