INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 20, 2012)—Martin Panza, racing secretary and vice president-racing, announced Friday that Betfair Hollywood Park will offer some maiden allowance turf sprints for 2-year-olds in June and July.
These races will help leading into some newly created turf stakes for juveniles that will be run later in the year at Del Mar and Santa Anita’s fall meet.
The two races for 2-year-olds Del Mar will offer for the first time in 2012 are the $100,000 Oak Tree Juvenile Fillies, which will be run Sept. 3, and the $100,000 Oak Tree Juvenile, which will be contested Sept. 5, closing day of the season.
The two races at Santa Anita – as yet unnamed – will also offer a $100,000 purse.
“Betfair Hollywood Park is happy to help with the development of this new juvenile turf stakes series in California,’’ said Panza. “With the Breeders’ Cup having added turf races for 2-year-olds it is important for California to offer a turf stakes series for those horses. We hope to aid in the development of the series and provide our horsemen with grass opportunities for their juveniles.’’
Betfair Hollywood Park will begin its 50-day Spring/Summer meet Thursday, April 26. Post time is 1 p.m.
