Baffert Sends Out Trio In San Vicente Stakes

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (February 14, 2013)—War Academy, a stylish winner first time out last Nov. 9 at Betfair Hollywood Park, will make his stakes debut in the $150,000 San Vicente Sunday at Santa Anita.

A Grade II for 3-year-olds at seven furlongs, the San Vicente is the seventh of nine races. Post time at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Owned by Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith and trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert, War Academy prevailed by 1 ¾ lengths against five opponents when debuting over Cushion Track.

A son of Giant’s Causeway out of the A.P. Indy mare Cabbage Key, War Academy is one of three San Vicente entrants for Baffert.

The trainer will also send out Shakin It Up, who finished third behind stablemates Really Mr Greeley and Super Ninety Nine in the Grade III Hollywood Prevue last Nov. 22 at Betfair Hollywood Park and Belvin, who graduated in his second start Dec. 26.
