INGLEWOOD, Calif. (Nov. 20, 2009) — Homebred filly Crisis of Spirit, winner of the Anoakia in her last start, aims for her third straight victory in Sunday’s $100,000 Moccasin at Hollywood Park.

Crisis of Spirit, owned by Mike Pegram, will try to earn a spot in the $300,000 guaranteed Hollywood Starlet on Dec. 20 with a strong showing in the seven-furlong Moccasin, which will be run for the 23rd time.

Crisis of Spirit, who will be ridden by Mike Smith, has been perfect since finishing second in her career debut Sept. 5 at Del Mar. She drew the outside post in the field of six 2-year-old fillies, which will line up as follows from the rail out:

Miss Heather Lee, with Garrett Gomez up, carries 118 pounds; Neeko, Alex Solis, 116; Lt. Anne, Rafael Bejarano, 116; Bickersons, Joe Talamo, 116; It Tiz, Joel Rosario, 118, and Crisis of Spirit, Smith, 118.

Bob Baffert, trainer of Crisis of Spirit, will also saddle Miss Heather Lee, who was purchased by Arnold Zetcher after breaking her maiden in her second start for trainer Adam Kitchingman at Del Mar.

“Crisis of Spirit should show speed,” Baffert said. “Miss Heather Lee will run from off the pace.”

Bickersons will try to rebound from a tenth-place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. After breaking her maiden for owners George and Lori Hall and trainer Kelly Breen at Monmouth Park in July, the Canadian-bred daughter of Silver Deputy finished third in the Spinaway at Saratoga and third in the Oak Leaf at Santa Anita.

It Tiz, trained by Mark Glatt for Allen and Susan Branch, has won two of four starts, connecting most recently in allowance company at Santa Anita. She was fourth in the Darley Debutante at Del Mar and in the Oak Leaf.

Lt. Anne rallied to win her lone start Nov. 1 at Santa Anita, while Neeko broke her maiden in her second start for owner/trainer Patricia Harrington.

The Moccasin runs as the eighth race on Sunday’s nine-race program at Hollywood Park. First post time is 12:30 p.m.
