American Oaks Winner Seeks First Victory Of 2013

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 18, 2013)—Lady of Shamrock, who earned the first Grade I victory of her career in the 2012 American Oaks at Betfair Hollywood Park, will seek her first win as a 4-year-old in the $150,000 Santa Barbara Handicap Saturday at Santa Anita.

A Grade II for older fillies and mares at 1 1/4 miles on turf, the Santa Barbara is the fourth of nine races. Post time Saturday at Santa Anita is 12:30 p.m. Track gates at Betfair Hollywood Park will open at 10:15 a.m. for simulcasts.

Trained by John Sadler for Hronis Racing LLC, Lady of Shamrock used a rail-skimming ride by Hall of Famer Mike Smith to win the American Oaks by 1 ¼ lengths as the 3-2 favorite. She added the Grade I Del Mar Oaks to her resume before finishing fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf in her final start of 2012 last Nov. 2 at Santa Anita.

Second behind Tiz Flirtatious in the Grade II Santa Ana Stakes March 24 in her first start of the year, Lady of Shamrock is stretching to the distance of her American Oaks win in the Santa Barbara. She will be ridden for the first time by Rafael Bejarano.

A daughter of Scat Daddy and the Blushing John mare Blushing Issue, Lady of Shamrock has won six of 12 and earned $735,400.
