Acclamation Seeks Another Grade I Win In Eddie Read

INGLEWOOD, Calif. (July 21, 2011)—A two time winner of the Jim Murray and Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicaps at Hollywood Park, Acclamation will seek his first stakes victory at Del Mar in the $300,000 Eddie Read Stakes Saturday.

A Grade I at 1 1/8 miles on turf, the Read is the eighth of 10 races at Del Mar. Post time is 2 p.m. Track gates open at 10:30 a.m. for simulcasts at Hollywood Park.

Owned by breeders Bud and Judy Johnston and Peter and Mary Hilvers and trained by Don Warren, Acclamation has earned five of his six career wins at Hollywood Park. His only other victory in 17 races came on the Del Mar grass.

Joel Rosario, who rode the 5-year-old California bred to a seven length win in the Grade II Murray May 14, is back aboard the son of Unusual Heat and the Silveyville mare Winning in Style. In 25 starts, Acclamation has earned $758,048.

Another member of the Read cast coming off a stakes win at Hollywood Park is the mare Celtic Princess.

Owned by breeder Coudelaria Jessica and trained by A.C. Avila, the 7-year-old Brazilian bred defeated Harmonious and four others in the Grade II Royal Heroine Mile July 4. The 7-year-old daughter of Public Purse and the Formal Dinner mare Exotic Dinner has won six of 15 and earned $330,624.
