INGLEWOOD, Calif. (March 31, 2012)—Acclamation, the champion older male of 2011, could make his first start as a 6-year-old in the $100,000 Inglewood Handicap April 27 at Betfair Hollywood Park.

A Grade III on turf, the Inglewood has been lengthened to 1 1/8 miles – from 1 1/16 miles – for its 72nd renewal in 2012. Won a year ago by Liberian Freighter, the Inglewood is the first graded stakes of the Spring/Summer meet and will highlight the first Friday night program of the season. The 50-day meet begins Thursday, April 26.

Owned by breeders Bud and Judy Johnston and trained by Don Warren, Acclamation, who worked six furlongs in 1:13.80 March 29 at Santa Anita, has done some of his finest work at Betfair Hollywood Park. In fact, the California bred son of Unusual Heat and the Silveyville mare Winning in Style has earned a majority of his victories on the local turf course.

A two-time winner of the Charles Whittingham Memorial and Jim Murray Memorial Handicaps, Acclamation has won five times on the Betfair Hollywood Park grass, earning $556,860. Overall the bay has won nine of 28 and banked $1,628,048.

After losing his first two starts of 2011, Acclamation ended his campaign with five consecutive victories, resulting in an Eclipse Award. Three of those wins came in Grade I’s on two different surfaces. In addition to turf scores in the Whittingham and Eddie Read at Del Mar, Acclamation also captured the Pacific Classic over Del Mar’s Polytrack.

Run on turf every year – with a single exception in 2003 – since 1975, the Inglewood has been won by such grass stalwarts as Johnny’s Image, Bold Tropic, Royal Heroine, Al Mamoon, Steinlen (twice), Fastness and Leroidesanimaux.
